After stints in Slint and Tortoise, David Pajo released SHARK CAGE, his first LP under the Papa M moniker. All-instrumental, lo-fi, and ambient, LIVE is a confluence of the atmospheric post-rock, lo-fi alternative, and contemplatively acoustic college-radio fare that fueled the quieter side of the 1990s underground. "Up North Kids" beautifully cascades ambient, lingering notes over the scratchiest of barely amplified guitars and a jazzily simple snare beat, while the more glaringly offbeat "Bups" evokes a minimalist outtake of Herbie Hancock's "Chameleon."
