Uniquely Yours

Prior to achieving stardom as a country singer, Joe Stampley fronted the Shreveport, Louisiana-based group The Uniques. Their 1966 debut album, UNIQUELY YOURS, presented a band whose sound was a distinctive blend of blue-eyed soul, garage rock, and smooth pop. Two of the band's signature songs are here, representing different sides of their musical personality--the rough-edged rocker "You Ain't Tuff," which was included on the legendary NUGGETS garage-rock compilation, and the swaying, melodic "Not Too Long Ago," subsequently covered by everyone from Nick Lowe to Stampley himself. Over the course of the album, they also dip into everything from "Georgia on My Mind" to "House of the Rising Sun."
